The age of VC product

The reason Lucia now includes “Product” in her role is that alongside her work in founder impact, she has brought her product mindset to great effect across the fund.

At BACKED we’ve been differentiating through our community strategy for many years. Our human centric ethos is what binds together our strands of investing, fundraising, founder support, marketing and operations. It’s always been about the relationships - between the co-founding partners Andre and Alex, with the team, our founders, our LPs, co-investors, advisors, friends of the fund - you faithful reader.

Now, in the age of AI, harnessing the full power of our relationships is possible, at a scalable level.

To achieve these ambitions, Lucia put her product mindset to work. Developed over years working across Europe and SF at the likes of Keebo and Slido, Lucia’s love for building has come to the fore.

The result: The BACKED Brain. This is a data lake where all BACKED data is accessible in real-time, and queryable by anyone with the right permissions, with high level accuracy. She has created an architecture for BACKED which feeds into a central knowledge graph, alongside a relationship graph. This relationship layer will access BACKED’s proprietary network data. It will unlock better connectivity which will enable all areas of the fund to scale.

Lucia has been hosting “BACKATHONS” - AI hackathons for our founders, fellow VCs (second one hosted 7 months ago; third one this Summer) and our team (first internal one was 11 months ago) at our London HQ for the past year.

We will start sharing more details about the AI VC platforming work Lucia has spearheaded, alongside how we deliver founder impact. Lucia has also been co-leading the Power Breakfast event series for angel investors.
